About Us
Janet and I married in 1976 and are blessed with two wonderful daughters, Heather (1978) and Adrienne (1982). In 2009 we were blessed with the addition of a son when Heather married Andy Beard, a Youth Pastor in Rose Hill, NC, and in 2011, God blessed us with our first grandchild - Tyson.
Like all husbands and wives, we face our share of challenges in our marriage. We are able to draw from our experiences, as we share with other couples, a clearer understanding of what it takes to have a successful and lasting marriage relationship. The world says that if you fall out of love, your marriage is over, and there is no hope. The truth is, you can fall back in love and have a stronger relationship than ever imagined. In His Word, God has provided us with a road map that guides us to the kind of marriage we desire. If we live according to God's Word, keep our priorities in the proper order, and strive to meet each others' needs, we can achieve true marital bliss!
God designed marriage to get better every year. 2 Become 1 Ministries was created to help couples enhance their marriages, according to God's perfect design. Our ministry is the result of years of prayer while seeking God's will for our lives in the area of marriage ministry. God desires that all of us serve in different areas of ministry.
In 2004, God placed a tremendous burden on my heart to help educate couples about how to enhance their marriage relationships. He revealed to me, through a chain of events, including our own daughter's divorce after only two years of marriage, that most of us enter into marriage totally unprepared and often unequipped for the journey. In most cases, we simply do not have a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed in marriage.
As I began to spend more time in God's Word, as well as reading multiple resources by well-known Christian authors, and listening to numerous audio resources about marriage, God helped me to understand that the breakdown in the family unit is at the epicenter of many of the issues we face in the world today. Marriages are disintegrating at an alarming rate, and unfortunately that rate is just as high among Christians as it is in the secular world.
During this period of spiritual growth, God showed me the great need that exists to help couples understand their individual differences, as well as their roles and responsibilities in marriage. God led me to an understanding of what we need to have lasting, strong, enjoyable, and Godly marriages. We feel that the best results are achieved in a setting where couples jointly hear, study, and learn what God's Word has to say about marriage. We also believe the results are better when marriage enrichment studies are facilitated by couples who are willing to be open and honest about their successes, challenges, and mistakes in their own relationship.
In 2006 Janet, graciously agreed to assist me with small group facilitation at our home church. Since that time we have facilitated more than two dozen weekend retreats, study's, couples banquet's, and other enrichment events across North Carolina. The results have been a blessing to us! We have witnessed individuals develop closer personal relationships with Jesus, the only One who can meet our deepest needs. Couples have developed closer bonds of love and deeper levels of intimacy. In addition, challenged relationships have grown stronger and healthier, as they have focused on building their marriages on the Rock.....Jesus!
